Deborah Niederer Saxon, Ph.D.

Program Director

Pronouns – She/Her/Hers

Deb has been active in the CIC since moving to Indiana almost ten years ago. She says that the Festival of Faiths was taking place the very first week that she arrived in town and that it immediately made her feel at home as a returning Hoosier. Deb originally did a masters in English/applied linguistics at IU and then taught English to diverse speakers of other languages both here in the US and in Japan—where she and her husband, John, lived for seven years. She then became interested in religious diversity and earned a PhD in religious studies from the University of Denver/Iliff School of Theology. Over the past decade, she has introduced others to the world’s varied ways of life and religious and spiritual traditions through teaching at Butler University and CTS, also serving as a pastor in the Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, and now she is delighted to have the opportunity to serve as Program Director and mentor those in our Interfaith Enrichment Corps (AmeriCorps). She and John originally hail from Texas and met at Baylor University, but she has also lived in Michigan, Oklahoma, South Dakota, California, and Colorado. We hope you will reach out to her at deb@indycic.org.
